The dawning of a new decade brings with it much of the ‘same old’ coming to a cinema near you. That means sequels for the Transformers, X-Men, Spy Kids, Sherlock Holmes, Paranormal Activity, Twilight, Final Destination (for the love of God, will it ever end…?) and the grand finale of Harry Potter among the most hotly anticipated.

On the upside 2011 also brings with it a remake of western classic True Grit with Jeff Bridges stepping into John Wayne’s boots. Fans of the original might quake at the thought, but with the Coen brothers at the helm, it’s sure to break the genre mould.

Black Swan is another awards contender that might leave many more speechless thanks to Natalie Portman and her twisted turn as a ballerina tipping slowly into madness.
And it wouldn’t be awards season without Clint Eastwood. This time he offers us Hereafter, a meditation on mortality featuring Matt Damon.
Fellow Bostonian Mark Wahlberg is also throwing his hat in the Oscars ring with The Fighter. He stars as boxer Mickey Ward opposite Christian Bale as his brother and coach. Tempers will flare…
